coverletter

December 4, 2008

Before the draft workshop my paper was a rough draft, it was missing a lot of key things like a counterargument, conclusion and a word cited page. But with the help of classmates I was able to form a counterargument, conclusion and of course add a work cited page. I also used the owl handouts to improve my paper; I also used the owl website to help me with my citations.

This is my intro for paper III

Over the last few years we have seen the price of higher education skyrocket. Middle class families are unable to send their sons and daughters to college, even though the child possess a gifted mind. Those people that do go to college are faced with huge debt, the average graduate student has about 26,119 dollars in debt (ASA.) The cost of higher education can be reduced significantly if we use the resources available to us. Today’s technology has let us to form online classes. Online classes are classes that are offered by a university through the web. An online class is basically a website were one listen/watch lecture, do homework and read assign readings. Most online classes even let you talk to other students using instant messaging programs. All this technology may sound expensive but in reality it is cheaper that traditional class rooms. In traditional class rooms space is limited, while online a professor could reach thousands even millions of students. Online class rooms are more efficient, cheaper and provide students with education that is equal to traditional class rooms.

What would Jesus Buy?

November 9, 2008

What would Jesus Buy? I think the movie makes some good points. The holydays are suppose to be enjoyed with family and friends and we are suppose to thank for what we already have. But these days people think holydays are about getting gifts. I have some younger cousins, how only go to their grandma house because she gives the best gifts, other wise they would not go. Giving gifts has become a norm in today’s society, I don’t think the church of stop shopping’s mission can not succeed. I actually thought it was kind of fun, that there is a church of stop shopping. I overall point of the movie what to show us how much shopping we do during the holydays, and how it is unnecessary.

SIDE NOTE: I thought the movie was kind of funny. What about reverent Billy’s own shopping habits, how much do you think he spends on hair spray, is all that hair spray necessary?

Memento a reflection of Culture

The workshop helped me improved my paper. I was able to make mine argument better and I also became aware that my paper did not address the opposing argument. I workshop also helped me fine tune my paper by pointing out my grammatical mistakes. Over all the workshop greatly improved my paper.

The other Side of Email

October 23, 2008

I disagree with Kuttner, I believe that email is a great tool that has improved our live for the great. With out email the world as we know it would not exist. Email has allowed us to communicate with friends and family all over the world. I have friends in the army who are deployed in Iraq, I would not be able to have contact with them with out email. Email not only keeps us in touch it makes us money. Email has made our businesses more productive, our businesses can communicate instantly, so they dont have to wait on approval.

The Thematic Paradigm

October 14, 2008

The Thermatic Paradigm by Robert B. Ray.

The thermatic Paradigm reminds me of the recent Batman The Dark Knight. In The Dark Knight  has they two character types that Ray talks about. I think Batman is the outlaw hero, he does not follow the fall, and when dealing with criminals he takes the law into his own hands. Also Batman lives two lives, during the day he is Bruce Wayne, a law obeying citizen, but by night he is outlaw.  I think Harvey Dent, the lawyer is the official hero. He fights crime like batman, but he uses the law.

Understanding Star Wars

October 6, 2008

Understanding Star Wars. By Charles Ealy.

I am not a big Star Wars fan, I have not seen the whole series. But I think people are over analyzing Star Wars. Star War was attended to be a children’s film. I think it is no thing more than that. I disagree with views that Star Wars is describing the south before the civil war. I just don’t see it, Dr. Taylor makes the agreement that R2-D2 and C-3PO are slaves of Luke. Come on, they are just robots that Anakin created to help him. I think R2-D2 and C-3PO are more side kicks than slaves. The only argument that I do agree with is Star Wars might be about Reagan-era view about the Soviet Union. I think Darth Vader represents the communist dictator, he has all the power and if one does not follow his orders he kills them. Luke and his side, represent the United States, There is no one person in power, even the Jedi Knights have to ask for permission from the republic. But I might be over analyzing it.

Charles Ealy is an entertainment writer, so writing a article, with many different views points gets people talking and that is what he wants. He wants people to talk about his writing. I think he does an excellent job, he sure got our class talking.

The Postmorbid Condition

September 28, 2008

The Postmorbid Condition by Vivian C. Sobchack

I Disagree with Vivian, I think violence in Hollywood movies is not senseless. The violence in the movies makes the movie more entertaining, it keeps the viewer on the edge of there seat. With out violence the movies would be dull and the movie business would not be a muilt-billion dollar industry as it is today. Vivian through out her essay say the violence is random. But in most movies it follows the plot, with out the violence the plot can not move forward. I do agree with Vivian that violence in Hollywood has made our lives more violent. People are influenced by the violence in Hollywood movies. For example the shooters of columbine high, were heavily influenced by violent movies and games.
